iMERMAID Extended Demonstration of the iMERMAID solutions in new associated regions

Funding opportunity for local/regional authorities to demonstrate and scale up iMERMAID solutions for chemical pollution prevention and remediation in new associated regions.

The iMERMAID Open Call #2 invites new 'associated regions' to join efforts in preventing, eliminating, and remediating water pollution from chemicals. Selected regions will receive funding and technical support to develop plans and projects that align with iMERMAID's goals of addressing Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CoEC) in the Mediterranean. Proposals can replicate existing solutions in new regions and must adhere to iMERMAID’s objectives and processes.

Type of projects to be funded: The call funds projects that extend and demonstrate the feasibility, replicability, and scale-up of iMERMAID’s innovative solutions for chemical pollution monitoring and remediation. Funded activities may include pollution detection, hotspot identification, prevention strategies, and remediation actions in new associated regions.

Sectors / domain: Water quality monitoring, chemical pollution prevention, and environmental remediation.

Individual or consortium: Only local and/or regional authorities from eligible associated regions can apply. Private entities cannot apply but may be involved as subcontractors.

Specific eligibility requirements:
Applicants must be from EU Member States or Associated Countries other than those represented in the iMERMAID consortium.
Proposals must align with iMERMAID objectives and demonstrate the ability to implement solutions in their respective regions.
Regions previously funded in Open Call #1 are not eligible.

Specific topics or challenges:
Upstream Chemical Pollution Detection – Monitoring, mapping, and hotspot identification.
Solutions Against Chemical Pollution – Prevention, reduction, and remediation methods.

Projects duration: 9 months, divided into three phases – Use Case Definition (2 months), Implementation (4 months), and Evaluation & Feedback (3 months).

Budget, funding rates, and payment conditions:
Funding rate: 100%
Budget conditions / limitations: Up to €100,000 per project, distributed as follows:
Stage 1 (Use Case Definition) – Up to €17,000
Stage 2 (Implementation) – Up to €58,000
Stage 3 (Evaluation & Feedback) – Up to €25,000
Payments: Three instalments (17% + 58% + 25%) based on milestone completion and evaluation.
