FERRO Open Call for Associated Regions
Strives to foster sustainable nutrient recovery and reuse in European lakes by supporting regions facing eutrophication to develop and implement tailored restoration solutions.
FERRO Open Call for Associated Regions is inviting local and regional authorities to develop and implement innovative solutions for the restoration and protection of natural lake ecosystems. This call aims to extend the impact of the FERRO project's approaches, focusing on nutrient recovery and reuse to combat eutrophication challenges faced by natural lakes across Europe.
Type of projects to be funded: The call supports projects that involve the development and implementation of action plans to transfer and adapt FERRO restoration solutions. Eligible activities include preliminary investigations, system analysis, laboratory and field tests, stakeholder engagement, and demonstration of remote sensing monitoring dashboards.
Sectors / domain: Environmental restoration, particularly focusing on natural lake ecosystems.
Individual or consortium: Applications can be submitted by individual local or regional authorities or as a consortium. In a consortium, one authority must act as the Lead Applicant.
Specific eligibility requirements: Applicants must be local or regional authorities from EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries, excluding those already represented in the FERRO consortium. The selected lake must face eutrophication challenges and be suitable for remote sensing.
Specific topics or challenges: Projects should address eutrophication issues such as elevated nutrient levels, algal blooms, and low oxygen conditions.
Projects duration: The projects are expected to develop and implement their action plans over a two-year period.
