What happens when you give your brain two minutes to recover
There is a particular kind of exhaustion that most founders and builders know too well. It is not the tiredness that sleep fixes, but the kind that comes from back to back meetings, constant context switching, the pressure of making decisions that matter, and the pull of a hundred things competing for your attention at once.
The problem is not that founders lack discipline or care less about their mental wellbeing than anyone else. The problem is that many wellbeing tools require something they simply do not have: time. Meditation apps may promise calm, but they often ask for a significant daily commitment. Therapy can be valuable, but it is not always accessible at the exact moment stress peaks. Meanwhile, the working day keeps moving.
That is where Mistikist comes in.
We’re pleased to welcome Mistikist as a featured partner of the Cascade Funding Hub community. It is a mental wellbeing and performance platform designed to help busy professionals regulate their mental state in two to eight minutes, whether that is between meetings, before deep work, or after an overwhelming task.
Mistikist
Meet the founder: Buğra Karahan
Buğra Karahan is the technical founder and CEO of Mistikist. With more than ten years in technology leadership, software development, product strategy, and international partnerships, he built Mistikist after his own experience with sustained corporate pressure and burnout forced him to rethink how we approach mental recovery.
That personal reckoning shaped everything about Mistikist. Buğra was driven by a simple question: why does mental regulation have to be something that demands thirty minutes, a quiet room, and years of meditation practice? Why can’t it just work in the time you actually have, between meetings, before deep work, when you need it most.
“Most people know they need to regulate stress, sleep better, or protect their focus. But they don't have thirty minutes or years of meditation experience to do it. We're trying to make neuroscience-informed mental training practical, immersive, and accessible.”
What is Mistikist?
Mistikist is a science informed mental wellbeing and performance platform that helps users shift their mental state in minutes rather than hours. It combines three forms of sensory input that the brain naturally responds to: sound rhythms, visual patterns, and guided breathing. These are supported by AI assisted recommendations and HRV and stress awareness to personalise the experience.
The core technique is called Audio-Visual Entrainment. Your brain naturally synchronises with rhythmic sensory input, a mechanism known as the frequency-following response. By layering binaural, monaural, and isochronic-style sound patterns with coordinated geometric motion, fractals, and kaleidoscopic visuals, Mistikist helps your brain transition toward states associated with calm focus, relaxation, sleep preparation, or alertness.
The sessions are deliberately short: two to eight minutes. That’s not by accident but by design.
“The ambition is not to replace therapy, medication, or medical care. It is to give people a simple tool they can use between meetings, before deep work, after an overwhelming day, or when preparing for rest.”
How it works: The unpredictability engine
Most wellness apps loop the same animation over and over. After a few sessions, your brain stops paying attention. The visual becomes background noise, and the effect wears off.
Mistikist approaches this differently through what Buğra calls the Unpredictability Engine. Instead of using fixed videos, the platform renders patterns dynamically through real time shaders. Parameters such as geometry, symmetry, colour, rotation, scale, and movement speed evolve throughout each session.
In practical terms: the experience stays fresh every time, so the effect doesn’t fade.
“Conventional wellness visuals often repeat the same animation loop, which can quickly become familiar and lose the user's attention. Our visual engine renders patterns dynamically so the experience never becomes predictable—and neither does the result.”
AI that learns what actually works for you
Mistikist personalises based on what you tell it and what you do.
When you start, you select your objective, whether that is deep focus, a stress reset, sleep preparation, or recovery after cognitive overload. You can then indicate your current mood, your main challenge, and your preferred session length. Mistikist uses these inputs to select a specific session, frequency profile, soundscape, visual style, and pacing.
A founder preparing for a critical pitch receives a different combination than someone winding down after a full day. Someone with distraction challenges gets a different protocol than someone managing anxiety.
Over time, the system learns. Mistikist is expanding to incorporate HRV, sleep data, calendar context, wearable integrations, and post-session response tracking. The goal is a privacy-conscious, closed-loop system that learns which protocols work best for you without positioning itself as medical diagnosis.
“Personalisation begins with what you're trying to achieve and what you've tried before. For example, a user seeking deep focus receives a different combination from someone preparing for sleep or recovering after back-to-back meetings.”
What mental states matter most for founders?
If you’re building a startup, the use cases are specific and urgent:
- Calm focus before deep work: getting into a focused state when you have a limited window to work on something important
- Short stress resets between meetings: creating space to reset before moving into the next conversation
- Recovery after cognitive overload: after a full day of back-to-back decisions
- Sleep preparation after overstimulation: your brain won’t shut off after a high-pressure day
- Study and sustained-attention support: when you need to learn something complex under time pressure
- Burnout-prevention routines: building regular moments of recovery into the day before pressure becomes overwhelming
For founders with ADHD or distraction challenges, Mistikist also works as a focus-support toolkit. Buğra is clear about this: it’s wellbeing and performance support, not treatment for ADHD or another clinical condition.
The research behind the product also explores these effects. A controlled study published in Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback showed that participants receiving Mistikist’s audio-visual stimulation protocol showed statistically significant changes in alpha and beta EEG power and a significant reduction in state-anxiety scores, while a control group did not. What Mistikist does measure responsibly—and what it doesn’t claim—matters.
“We want to communicate our findings responsibly. The study measured EEG activity and self-reported state anxiety; it did not measure cortisol. Therefore, we do not present cortisol reduction as a directly validated Mistikist outcome.”
Before and after: what changes when you use Mistikist
Before: Sustained pressure can make it difficult to maintain focus throughout the day. After hours of meetings and decisions, concentration starts to slip, energy drops, and by the time the working day ends, the mind may still be running at full speed. You know that taking time to reset would help, but fitting a longer wellbeing routine into an already packed schedule can feel unrealistic.
After: Instead of requiring a major change to your routine, Mistikist gives you a short tool you can use in the moments that already exist within your day. You might use it between meetings to reset, before deep work to prepare for a focused session, or before bed to help move out of work mode. It is not intended to replace therapy or medication, but to offer an immediate and practical option when you want to actively regulate your mental state.
The change is subtle but meaningful: your mental state stops being something you suffer and starts being something you regulate.
“We're trying to make neuroscience-informed mental training practical, immersive, and accessible.”
What’s next on Mistikist’s roadmap
Mistikist is expanding in several directions, all focused on connecting measurement with action. The aim is not only to help users understand when they are stressed or fatigued, but also to give them something practical they can do in response.
Upcoming features include:
- Apple Health and Google Health Connect integration: linking your Mistikist sessions to your broader health data
- Wearable connections: Garmin, Oura, Whoop, and others, so sessions can respond to your physiological state
- Camera-based HRV measurement: accessible heart-rate variability tracking without extra hardware
- EEG integration: optional Emotiv and Muse connections for users who want deeper biofeedback
- Closed-loop recommendations: sessions that adapt based on how your body actually responds
- Microsoft Teams micro-resets: combating meeting fatigue directly in your workflow
- Enterprise wellbeing dashboard: anonymised insights for organisations looking to understand team wellbeing
- Calendar-aware burnout prompts: recognising your calendar load and suggesting recovery protocols
- B2B APIs: embedded Mistikist experiences for workplace and health partners
The core idea is simple: connect measurement with action. Many systems tell you that you’re stressed or fatigued. Mistikist tells you that and gives you a short intervention you can use immediately.
What’s in it for our community
Mistikist is offering Cascade Funding Hub members an exclusive benefit: 3 months of Mistikist Premium completely free.

A practical tool for an unpractical schedule
Burnout often develops when sustained pressure, high stakes, and limited recovery time become part of the everyday routine. Many wellbeing tools require people to adapt their schedule around them. Mistikist takes the opposite approach by fitting short sessions into the time people already have.
If you are building across borders, pitching to investors, managing a distributed team, or simply trying to stay focused while solving difficult problems, Mistikist offers a practical way to introduce short moments of mental recovery into the working day.
