NOSTRADAMUS - OC#1

Funding for the development, testing and validation of open-source digital applications that support data-driven decision-making for sustainable and efficient agricultural production.

TYPE OF PROJECTS TO BE FUNDED: Projects developing, testing and validating open-source digital applications for data-based decision-making in agricultural production. Applications must use the NOSTRADAMUS platform architecture, operate within a TRL 4–7 window, and support sustainable and efficient agricultural production, with a particular focus on cereal-based systems and food security.

SECTORS / DOMAIN: Agriculture, with a focus on cereal-based production systems, sustainable farming, food security and digital agriculture.

INDIVIDUAL OR CONSORTIUM: Applications may be submitted by an individual legal entity or a consortium of up to two legal entities. A sole applicant must be a business entity (SME, start-up or small mid-cap). For consortia, the Lead Beneficiary must be a business entity providing the proposed solution, while the second partner may be a research organisation or a sectoral/end-user representation organisation responsible for testing and/or validating the technical developments.

SPECIFIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be legally established in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe associated country. Unincorporated start-ups, natural persons, larger mid-caps and large enterprises are not eligible. Each legal entity may participate in only one proposal. Proposed solutions must have a starting TRL of at least 4, directly address one of the five predefined topics and develop, test and validate a digital application using the NOSTRADAMUS platform architecture.

SPECIFIC TOPICS OR CHALLENGES: Projects must address one of five topics: sustainable crop production and optimisation of cereal-based systems under changing climate and soil conditions; nutrient and soil health management; water resource efficiency and drought resilience; smart and predictive pest and disease management; or an open topic combining at least two of the previous four topics into an integrated cross-domain decision-support application.

PROJECTS DURATION: 12 months, structured into four sprints: Training (2 months), Design (2 months), Development and Validation (6 months), and Demonstration and Assessment (2 months).

BUDGET, FUNDING RATES AND PAYMENT CONDITIONS:
Funding rate: Up to 100% of the total project costs.
Budget conditions / limitations: Up to €50,000 per project. Funding is provided as a lump sum. Subcontracting is not eligible.
Payments: Funding is paid in four instalments following successful completion and approval of the corresponding sprint deliverables and milestones: 10% after Sprint 1, 25% after Sprint 2, 40% after Sprint 3 and 25% after Sprint 4.
