Funding SMEs, start-ups, non-profit organisations and eligible consortia to develop, demonstrate and validate zero-waste, climate-smart wood construction solutions beyond TRL 5 using underutilised wood sources.
TYPE OF PROJECTS TO BE FUNDED: Projects developing and demonstrating climate-smart, zero-waste wood construction solutions beyond TRL 5 using currently underutilised wood sources. Funded activities may include demonstration and prototyping, physical and mechanical testing and work towards certification, co-creation with local actors and users, training, and dissemination. Projects are expected to test and validate their solutions in real-world or industrial contexts and demonstrate technical and financial feasibility and potential for scaling.
SECTORS / DOMAIN: Wood construction, with a focus on zero-waste and climate-smart solutions, circular use of wood, resource efficiency, longevity, environmental gains and systemic change across the wood construction value chain.
INDIVIDUAL OR CONSORTIUM: Applications may be submitted by an SME, start-up or non-profit organisation individually, or by a consortium led by an SME, start-up or non-profit organisation.
SPECIFIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be based in an EU Member State or a country associated with Horizon Europe Pillar 2. Proposals must demonstrate how they will achieve at least ambition level I for each New European Bauhaus value – together, sustainable and beautiful – using the NEB Compass. They must also demonstrate the use of at least one underutilised wood source defined by WoodStock: hardwood, damaged wood, low-quality wood, or post-consumer and residual wood. Double funding from the EU budget is prohibited, and only one application per solution is allowed.
SPECIFIC TOPICS OR CHALLENGES: Solutions must address zero-waste, climate-smart wood construction using at least one of the underutilised wood source types identified by WoodStock: hardwood, damaged wood, low-quality wood, or post-consumer and residual wood. Proposals are assessed on New European Bauhaus values, circularity, community-based impact, scalability, contribution to systemic change across the wood construction value chain, and applicant capacity.
PROJECTS DURATION: 1 year, with a progress report after 0.5 year and final reporting after 1 year.
BUDGET, FUNDING RATES AND PAYMENT CONDITIONS:
Funding rate: 100% lump sum.
Budget conditions / limitations: Each selected project may receive up to €50,000. The call aims to select 4 projects. If an SME participates in multiple applications, its total funding received through the WoodStock grants cannot exceed €60,000. Dissemination activities may account for a maximum of 20% of the total budget. The selection committee may propose a lower project budget where the requested amount is considered disproportionate to the proposed activities.
Payments: Funding is paid in 2 instalments. The first instalment of €30,000 is paid upon signing the grant agreement. The final payment, up to the remaining balance, is scheduled for October 2028 following positive evaluation of project reporting.
