SOILSCAPE FSTP Open Call

Strives to integrate arts and creative approaches to raise soil awareness and engage citizens in soil preservation efforts across Europe.

The SOILSCAPE FSTP Open Call aims to fund projects that creatively integrate arts and cultural initiatives to increase soil literacy and public engagement with soil preservation. This open call is part of a larger effort to raise awareness about soil's significance in both natural and cultural contexts, and to mobilise citizens towards its protection and preservation.

Type of projects to be funded: The FSTP will support projects that develop creative, arts-based contributions for the SOILSCAPE Festival. The call seeks innovative communication campaigns, artistic activities, and methodologies that engage citizens with soil protection.

Sectors / Domain: The focus is on arts, culture, and education, combining these with environmental and soil science initiatives.

Individual or consortium: Applications are open to individuals and small consortia of up to three partners. Each applicant may submit a proposal independently or as part of a consortium.

Specific eligibility requirements: Eligible applicants include legal entities from countries that qualify for Horizon Europe funding. This includes self-employed individuals, SMEs, public authorities and public institutions, civil society organisation, and cooperatives. The specific types of applicants expected to apply per category are described in more detail in Appendices 2-4.

Specific topics or challenges: Projects should address themes such as reducing desertification, conserving soil organic carbon, and improving soil biodiversity. They should align with the mission 'A Soil Deal for Europe'. The SOILSCAPE FSTP will encourage smaller projects and initiatives to develop activities within the following three (3) strands:
- Stand 1 - Develop innovative communication campaigns (Appendix 2).
- Strand 2 - Organise and promote artistic-soil related activities (Appendix 3).
- Strand 3 - Deploy innovative, creative, and participatory methodologies to engage citizens with soil protection and preservation (Appendix 4).

Projects duration: Projects can last 6, 12, or 18 months, depending on the scale and nature of the project.

Budget, funding rates, and payment conditions:
Funding rate: 100%
Budget conditions / limitations: Local projects can receive up to €50,000, national projects up to €100,000, and transnational projects up to €150,000.
Payments: Payments are deliverable-based, with no prefinancing. They are divided into phases: Design (30%), Development (50%), and Validation (20%).

Key dates: The call was published on June 2, 2025, and will close on September 30, 2025. The implementation of selected projects is expected to begin in March 2026.
